Following the Christian Revival often termed "Finney's Revival" in the east coast of the USA during the mid-1800's,  when 50,000 people made commitments to Jesus Christ for over three years, at least six groups we often call "cults" grew out of the failure of Christian leaders do make disciples of these new converts.

The founders and leaders of those and similar groups mostly knew each other, and borrowed from each other's errors and heresies.

Both the book and the illustration here show how these people were linked with each other.
